&Ishikari

The view is a big part of this station’s appeal,
but it offers a chance to see the Ishikari region’s history and culture as well

Have a comfortable drive along Route 231, aiming for the Ishikari roadside station「Ai Road Atsuta」. An eye-catching three-storey building backed by the Sea of Japan. The merchandise corner has farm produce, processed seafood and seaweed, famous sweets, and goods from its sister cities Wajima City and Onna Village, Okinawa. For meals, you have a lot of options: Gelato made from local ingredients, a soba shop that makes a good herring soba, a restaurant with freshly baked bread and pizza, and another store with scallop curry and abalone curry. Besides this, you have a sushi shop popular for their herring-and-herring-roe battera (a type of sushi made with fish and a sheet of kelp pressed onto vinegary rice) and more. Additionally, there’s an entertainment area for children, as well as an exhibit and material area to help you learn about herring fishing and Ishikari’s history and culture. Finally, the view from the top floor observatory can’t be beaten. Take in the streets of Atsuda and the Sea of Japan in one incredible view! It’s also popular for its beautiful sunsets.
